Representative John Keenan Offers Remarks at
I would like to thank Peter Schaeublin for inviting me to join you for this very special evening. Tonight we honor eight men who have dedicated their professional lives to our city. Seven of them have routinely put their lives on the line in the interest of maintaining public safety here in Salem. Sadly, one of them, Captain William Hudson, has since left us. The eighth, my predecessor at the State House, is an honorary firefighter, and he certainly has matched his colleagues in Local 172 in terms of his commitment to public service. Tonight we honor Deputy Chief Thomas Brophy, Lieutenant Ronald Holloran, Lieutenant Robert Lemelin, Lieutenant Cliff Lewis, firefighter Ronald Fournier, firefighter Donald Weston, the late Captain William Hudson, and former Representative J. Michael Ruane. I am honored to be able to stand here tonight and offer these resolutions of thanks to each of these fine public servants from the Massachusetts House of Representatives and, through it, the people of Salem and of the Commonwealth. To Deputy Chief Brophy, Lieutenants Holloran, Lemelin, and Lewis, firefighters Fournier and Weston, and Mike Ruane congratulations upon your retirements and may the years ahead bring you health, happiness, and good fortune. To the memory of Captain Hudson, we offer a prayer in thanksgiving that we could share in the life of this extraordinary public servant. And to his family we extend the condolences of a grateful people, who are safer and better off today because of his work and his efforts. Thank you again for inviting me to join you all on this very special occasion. And I look forward to a successful and productive relationship in the years to come!
