Sen. Berry, Rep. Keenan Greet Salem's Mayor-Elect at State House

Boston - Salem’s Mayor-Elect Kim Driscoll paid a visit to the Massachusetts State House during the last day of formal legislative session on Wednesday at the invitation of Senate Majority Leader Frederick E. Berry (D-Peabody). Mayor-Elect Driscoll met with Senator Berry and had the opportunity to address the Massachusetts Senate.

Senator Berry arranged for Driscoll to meet with two key members of Senate Leadership, Senate President Robert Travaglini (D-East Boston) and Ways and Means Chairwoman Therese Murray (D-Plymouth). “The Mayor-Elect made a positive impression on all my colleagues,” Senator Berry said. “I think that we are going to be able to work together to do some very good things for Salem.”

Introducing Driscoll in the Senate Chamber, Senator Berry hailed Driscoll’s historic election as Salem’s first woman mayor. Driscoll addressed the Senate saying that she was looking forward to working with the body. “I come here as Salem’s first woman mayor, but also as a constituent of Senator Berry,” Driscoll said. Driscoll later joked that she would be back soon to lobby for money to fund improvements in the City of Salem. Senator Berry replied that she was a quick study of the workings of the State House.

Representative John Keenan (D-Salem) also met with the Mayor-Elect during the day and introduced her in the House of Representatives, where she received loud applause and acclaim from the members. "Mayor-Elect Driscoll and I had a very productive discussion about the many projects and issues important to Salem," said Representative Keenan, "I look forward to working with her and Senator Berry on all of the opportunities and challenges that face our community in the months and years ahead."
