Keenan Reacts to Latest Developments as
BOSTON Representative Keenan was pleased to learn that the Commonwealths Division of Capital Asset Management (DCAM) today announced their request for proposals (RFP) for the properties that will comprise the new $106 million Salem courthouse project. This announcement comes on the heels of the Salem City Councils Committee on Community and Economic Development favorable vote to sell DCAM a necessary parcel of city-owned land on the proposed courthouse site. The full Council is expected to take up the issue when it meets on December 8th. These are all great steps along the road to completing what will be perhaps one of the most significant capital projects in downtown Salem in decades, said Representative Keenan, The RFP and the sale of the city parcel will bring the needed property into DCAMs control and will allow them to move the renovation and construction process forward. I am pleased that the Council committee continued to demonstrate the united support our community has for this important project and I look forward to seeing the response to the RFP. Representative Keenan has arranged a meeting between himself, Senator Frederick Berry, DCAM Commissioner David Perini, DCAM project manager Gail Rosenberg, Chief Justice for Administration and Management Robert Mulligan, and Salem Mayor-Elect Kim Driscoll for later in December in order to bring Mayor-Elect Driscoll up to date on the status of this critical project. With her strong background in municipal planning and development, I am certain Mayor-Elect Driscoll is already familiar with many of the issues surrounding a project of this magnitude and complexity, said Representative Keenan, Nevertheless, I wanted to give her the opportunity to meet the Commissioner, project manager, and Chief Justice, who have been spear-heading this project, and bring up any questions or concerns she might have for them about it.
