Representative Keenan Tours Food Bank
MEFAP is a key component of our distribution, said The Greater Boston Food Bank President and CEO Catherine DAmato, who hosted the visit to the 60,000-square-foot facility. Nearly 800 agencies statewide are able to complement their resources with food from the state-allocated program. The legislators commitment to both MEFAP and the elimination of food insecurity statewide are to be commended. The visit to the Food Bank with Majority Leader Rogers was a great opportunity for an in-person and hands-on experience, and an excellent way to see the MEFAP program in action," said Representative Keenan, "Its mission is one that all can agree is just and essential - providing food to those who might otherwise go without. It was also helpful to learn of the Food Bank's service to the Salem community." Rep. Keenan was joined by House Majority Leader John Rogers, Rep. Rachel Kaprielian, Rep. Stephen LeDuc, Rep. Dennis Guyer, Rep. Michael Rush, Rep. Jennifer Flanagan, Rep. James Welch and Rep.Tom Sannicandro. The Representatives participated in a service project where they each sorted food that will be distributed to pantries and feeding programs served by The Greater Boston Food Bank.
The Greater Boston Food Bank distributes more than 24 million pounds of food annually to over 600 hunger-relief agencies in a dedicated partnership to end hunger in eastern Massachusetts.
