BERRY AND KEENAN ANNOUNCE SALEM COUNCIL
ON AGING TO RECEIVE $42,106 STATE GRANT

Senate Majority Leader Frederick E. Berry (D-Peabody) and Representative John D. Keenan (D-Salem) announced today that the Salem Council on Aging will receive a grant of $42,106 from the state. Salem’s grant was calculated by multiplying every citizen over the age of 60 by $5.87. The amount represents an 8% increase over the last fiscal year.

The Salem Council on Aging plans to use this money to employ a coordinator of volunteers and an outreach social worker.

“Services to our senior citizens are absolutely essential to our communities,” said Senator Berry. He continued, “I am glad that are continuing to support the work of Councils on Aging in their important role.

“It is vitally important that we do all that we can to aid our seniors,” agreed Representative Keenan, who held district office hours at the Council on Aging just yesterday. “With all of the recent confusion surrounding the federal prescription drug plans and Medicare Part D, the Salem Council on Aging has been overwhelmed with calls for assistance,” said Keenan, “Hopefully, these funds will help address those concerns.”
